  • Four-star point guard Courtney Ramey schedules unofficial visit to Illinois
The Missouri native is one of the top guards in the class-of-2018. Fighting Illini basketball will have two talented lead guards on their roster come 2017, but that isn’t stopping John Groce from exploring more options to solidify the position. Class-of-2018 guard Courtney Ramey is one of those potential additions and, according to Hoop Seen’s Corey Evans, he’ll be taking an unofficial visit to Champaign this weekend. The four-star St. Louis native is rated as the No. 75 overall player and No. 12 point guard in 247Sports’ composite rankings. He has other scholarships from Arkansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Texas, and UNLV. Ramey received his offer from Illinois during a previous campus visit last August. After being offered by UNLV last night, top-100 2018 guard Courtney Ramey will visit Illinois this weekend https://t.co/0D9GRR1JRq — Corey Evans (@coreyevans_10) August 23, 2016 Future 150’s scouting report on Ramey indicates that some of his current strengths are ball-handling, speed, play-making ability, and all-around feel for the game; "scoring on all three levels" was also designated as an area for improvement. • Looks Like University Of Illinois – Trent Frazier
Someone I know on the internet suggested the perfect nickname for Frazier. In the spirit of “Luther Powell Jr.”, motion to refer to this kid as “Chester Meacham”. See, the 2009 backcourt was TRENT Meacham and Chester FRAZIER, Trent Frazier, Chester Meacham, yeah, you’re right, the explanation ruins it. I’m enjoying this one-two post structure on basketball commitments. When the player commits, Alex gets the write-up (saving me the pressure of needing to put something up immediately) and then I can follow along later with the LLUOI. So let’s do that. I’ll start maybe where you don’t expect me to start. On Twitter and other places I’ve seen a lot of “Illinois finally gets their point guard”. And that’s true, and that’s great, but…… I don’t see this as “problem solved”. That’s not to say I’m not crazy excited for Chester Meacham to get to Champaign. I am. I’m just not sure we can say “problem solved”. Paul Scruggs would be “problem solved”. We’ve spent all of this time over the last few years talking about who we didn’t land – we didn’t get DJax, we didn’t get a signature from Snider, we didn’t land Brunson, we didn’t ...

  • Up Comes Frazier
I’ve never met Trent Frazier, and I’ve never seen him play beyond the YouTube highlights on my laptop. But I’ve already grown to admire the 6-foot-2, 170 pound Florida native, who became the fourth member of John Groce’s 2017 class when he committed to Illinois on Sunday during his official visit to the Illini campus. I’m the anti-Rondo fan; an observer who wants to see their lead guards rack up ridiculous point totals while still managing to effectively distribute the ball and run the offense. Forget letting defenders sag off at the top of the key or passing up layups for a cheap assist. I want my point guards to get buckets. And by all accounts, Trent Frazier gets buckets. He’s a four-star, fringe top 100 prospect (with a No. 108 national composite ranking) but hasn’t been on high-major radars until fairly recently. I’ll let Robert break down the finer points of Frazier’s game in his customary LLUOI post, but I would like to point out one thing that struck me when researching the Illini’s latest commit. As a sophomore at Wellington High in Wellington, Fla., Frazier was icy on high school ball’s biggest stage. To cap off a 13-point ...

  • Can Illinois Basketball land four-star point guard Trent Frazier this weekend?
The Florida native will be in Champaign for an official visit this weekend. Illinois basketball may have lost out on a top target last weekend, but recruiting momentum may be on the verge of returning. Four-star point guard Trent Frazier will be in Champaign this weekend for an official visit. The Florida native is the No.108 player in the country, and he's considering a list of seven other schools. John Groce made Frazier his top priority at the position this Summer, and that work has put the program on the verge of what could very well be another verbal commitment. Georgia is the only other 'finalist' that has been pursuing the Florida native over the past few months, however they had been devoting even more resources towards four-star guard Darius Perry, who selected Louisville on Tuesday. It seems they are the only potential 'threat' to persuade Frazier away from Illinois, but that might be pretty hard to accomplish based on his recent tweets. 2 days from now I'll be In Chicago , On my official visit to the #IllinoisUniversity — Trent (@_Trentfrazier1) August 18, 2016 Wayyyyyyyy to excited/pumped for this opportunity!! Fighting Illini basketball announced their complete 19-game home schedule on Monday afternoon, giving us what should be a full look at the non-conference slate in the process. • Four-star wing Jordan Goodwin commits to St. Louis Billikens over Illinois Basketball
Another disappointing recruiting loss for Fighting Illini basketball. It’s official — John Groce’s top recruiting target is off the board. Four-star wing Jordan Goodwin announced a verbal commitment to St. Louis University on Friday, confirming recent reports and speculation of a major change of heart over the past month. The Illinois native is the No. 48 player in the country; he was also considering Northwestern, Missouri, Butler, Alabama, and Creighton. Thanks to all the coaches who recruited me but I have decided to attend Saint Louis University pic.twitter.com/SFOGp4fGxq — JGOOD〽️ (@jGoodwin1123) August 12, 2016 So what exactly happened? It sounds like St. Louis’ hiring of Corey Tate was a driving force behind the decision. Tate was the former director of Goodwin’s AAU program, and this prior relationship apparently helped amplify pressure to stay in the area. Or perhaps Travis Ford just has Illinois’ number on the recruiting trail. As you may recall, Ford managed to beat out Illinois for top point guard target Jawun Evans while at Oklahoma State last Fall. But, man, this news has to hurt for Illinois, especially if the reports of Goodwin’s recent silence are accurate. The Illini figured to be the ...

  • REPORT: Four-star wing Jordan Goodwin is leaning towards St. Louis over Illinois
The latest recruiting developments don’t favor Illinois basketball. It seems Illinois’ pursuit of four-star wing Jordan Goodwin has taken a drastic turn as of late. Recent rumors of a major push by Travis Ford and the St. Louis Bilikens were seemingly confirmed Thursday by KSDK’s Frank Cusumano on the Tay and J Show (1:48:00 mark). Cusumano cited the hiring of new assistant Corey Tate as the catalyst behind this ‘change of heart’ while mentioning that a commitment could come as early as Friday or Monday. Fans of @SLU_Billikens I believe are going to get some great news about the best basketball player in STL, Jordan Goodwin, soon. @KSDKSports — Frank Cusumano (@Frank_Cusumano) August 11, 2016 Additionally, Illini Inquirer’s Derek Piper reported that Goodwin has gone into "stealth mode" since the end of his AAU season last month; he hasn’t spoken to any college coaches in at least two weeks. So it’s not hard to put two and two together here — this recruitment isn’t exactly favoring the Orange and Blue anymore. Goodwin is Illinois’ top remaining target, and the coaching staff has been pursuing him for almost two years. The 6-foot-4 guard/forward narrowed his list to ...
